Kolb Net Works Has a Big Day at Technology Awards Show.

Kolb Net Works, Inc., won a First Place trophy and four Second Place honors in the Technology Achievement Awards competition held at the Williamsport Radisson on October 19, 2001.  The competition involved companies from nine area chambers in eight separate categories. The event was organized by the Central Pennsylvania Chambers’ of Commerce Information Technology (CPaCCIT) Committee (www.cpaccit.org).

First Place Winner!

Kolb Net Works’ First Place entry was in the New Technology Project category, small (1-25 employees) division.  The entry described how we planned and implemented a corporate Virtual Private Network (VPN) at Kolb Net Works main offices to serve several employees working in other areas of the state.

The VPN project allows our workers to use system resources regardless of whether they are on or off site.  Video conferencing, instant messaging, daily activity reports, Microsoft Project scheduling software and access to corporate intranet resources keeps the lines of communication open for those off-site employees.

This project helped Kolb Net Works maximize our workers productivity, reduce the company’s project management costs and provide better data to our customers.

The Second Place prizes were:

Best New Application for Older Technology - Kolb Net Works, Inc. worked with Lycoming County's MIS staff to supply automatic web site data updates on election night.  The data is used to provide unofficial voting results to the public.  Lycoming County’s IBM AS 400 mainframe server sends data to the web site and custom programming sorts the data in real time for up-to-date web site information.  This project can be viewed at www.lyco.org

Technology Advocate - Kolb Net Works, Inc. Founder and President Kathy Kolb is known around the region as a tireless Technology Advocate.  Kolb chairs the Williamsport / Lycoming Chamber of Commerce Advanced Telecommunications & Information Technology Committee and is active in the region’s IT Committee: CPaCCIT.

Technology Educator - Kolb Net Works, Inc. has been involved in building online multimedia projects since 1999. This entry described our medical education lecture piece which features streaming digital video and synchronized slide content. Content subjects have included asthma, croup, sinusitis, blood pressure, alcohol education and knee cartilage.

Technology Growth Company - Growing their staff from one person in 1996 to 6 people in 2001, Kolb Net Works has experienced significant growth since its formation.  They are an example of how technology development is part of a region’s economic development.
